A classic picks a classic
If anyone knows Sportsters, it's Willie G. Davidson. He's designed 'em. He's watched 'em built. He's sees a few million of them every year at events.
So when it comes time for him to pick a winner of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum's All-Sportster bike show, it can't be easy. So Willie G. rolls with a great-looking example of one of his own all-time favorites: The XLCR café racer.
Noting that the design work for the bike was in motion when he started at the Motor Company, Willie says the low-bar, bikini-faring machine has always had a special place in his heart.
"We really had never done anything with that kind of design, and it was a little bit of a risk," he says of the CR. "And it did prove to be a risk in the marketplace. But I've always loved it."
Owned by Bryan Cohen of Columbus, Ohio, the bike is an all-original example of the breed. And no one was more excited than Cohen when Willie G. announced the bike as the winner.
"It was unbelievable," he says. "I was shaking when I walked up there to shake his hand. I've always loved the bike, and to meet the guy who helped design it, it's just amazing."
