Two guys named Jay and Willie ride some Harleys
How many times in life will you have a chance to see famed designer Willie G. Davidson and three-time AMA Grand National Champion Jay Springsteen riding side by side on the race track?
The answer: probably just once, Sunday, at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.
The co-Grand Marshals took a lap of honor around the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course then signed autographs for hundreds of fans waiting in line at the Motorhead Cafe in the track infield.
Springsteen rode a beautiful red-and-while 1972 XLCH owned by Peter Calles of Bethesda, Maryland, while Davidson circulated the track on a brand-new Nightster, one of the latest models from the design department he leads.
"I have a talented crew working for me, but my thumbprints are on it," Davidson said of the Nightster. "We're pretty proud of it."
Then the two fired up their Sportsters for a lap around Mid-Ohio, waving to the crowd. Just Jay and Willie, riding their Harleys.
