Sound of Springer

Road racing history was set in motion, as the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association program got into full swing on Mid-Ohio road-race course this afternoon.

And some of the best racing was saved for last, as Jay Springsteen put on a show in the 750cc Formula class. Though he was third on the first lap, Springsteen proved why he’s a three-time Grand National Champion by passing into second early, and into the lead by the halfway point.

Robert McLendon did his best to keep Springsteen honest. However, The Gunslinger, one of the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days’ Grand Marshals was able to pull a wide gap and win by a healthy margin.

“I’m just out here playing, trying to put on a good show. These Harleys have their own sound and the fans love it,” Springsteen said after the race. “This old Harley is great. Keith Campbell builds these bikes, and honestly they’re better than my old factory bikes.”
