Former stars battle at Loretta Lynn's

Former AMA Supercross star Doug Dubach won the Senior 40 Plus class while former two-time World MX Champ Trampas Parker finished third in racing action at the Air Nautiques AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, Wednesday.

Despite his third-place finish, Parker, of Mansfield, Louisiana, was pleased.

"I'm just happy to be able to come out and run with Doug (Dubach) and (second-place finisher) John (Grewe)," Parker said.

Parker also raced in the Vet 35 Plus class, finishing fourth behind Kevin Walker of Gray, Tennessee, Keith Johnson of Carver, Massachusetts, and Vince Devane of Plant City, Florida.

Walker said after his victory that rain during the day made for a tricky track.

"It didn't rain a lot, but enough to make the track really greasy," Walker said. "I put it on cruise control."

One of the big battles of the day featured another dogfight among Austin Stroupe of Lincolnton, North Carolina, Trey Canard of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Nico Izzi of St. Clair, Michigan, in the MX Lites A class. Those three young guns are emerging as the top contenders for the AMA Horizon Award, which will be given at the end of the week to the Loretta Lynn's racer who shows the most promise for a successful professional racing career.

Just as he did a day earlier, Stroupe won the race. Canard finished second and Izzi placed third, swapping positions from the day before.
