Mat goes fast
Mat Mladin laid down the fastest time in AMA Superbike this morning with a time of 1 minute, 38.441 seconds. Right on his tail, however, was the rider who got second at Daytona last year but won the AMA Superbike Championship, Ben Spies. Spies made a lap around the Speedway in 1 minute, 38.645 seconds.
Third fastest was Honda's Jake Zemke with a time of 1 minute, 39.363 seconds, while Kawasaki's Roger Lee Hayden did a lap in 1 minute, 39.382 seconds.
Cracking into the top five was the other Japanese team. Yamaha's Ben Bostrom had a fastest lap time of 1 minute, 39.540 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the AMA Lockhart-Phillips USA Formula Xtreme class, Honda's Miguel Duhamel led the charge with a 1 minute, 42.638 seconds. The reigning Formula Xtreme champion Josh Hayes was second with a time of 1 minute, 42.648 seconds, and Kawasaki's Steve Rapp was third with a 1:42.770.
