Yoxsimer plays the draft

Every time Bruce Yoxsimer edged his Seeley-framed AJS 7R ahead of David Roper during the 6-lap 350 GP class race in Monday vintage action at the Daytona International Speedway, Roper immediately put his Harley-Davidson Sprint back out front.

Yoxsimer wasn't worried, though. He knew exactly what to do.

"I think I had a little motor on Dave's bike, but he's been here so many times, I thought I'd just follow and learn a bit," says Yoxsimer, who rides for Go Daddy Racing in Woodside, California. "Coming into that last turn, I just made a typical Daytona draft pass, then I went up to the wall so it would be tough for him to get me back."

Roper almost did anyway, working the draft himself and nearly getting back by Yoxsimer at the line.

"Well, if you make the pass too soon, you get second," Yoxsimer says. "I guess I made it at just the right time."

Yoxsimer, who won the class championship in 2004, and Roper, who won the class in 2005 and 2006, are now tied in series points, and they'll be right back here on Tuesday to decide who carries the lead out of Daytona.
