DiSalvo takes Superstock pole

Things happen fast in Daytona.

After a practice session Wednesday morning, the riders of the AMA Repsol Lubricants Superstock Championship went straight to qualifying in the afternoon. The guy who could come up to speed the quickest? Yamaha's Jason DiSalvo, who took the pole position with a time of 1 minute, 39.185 seconds on his 14th lap.

“I just went out there and rode my own deal. I didn’t have a draft,” said DiSalvo, whose Yamaha R1 was the first Yamaha to capture the Superstock pole at Daytona since Tom Kip in 1995.

Despite winning the pole, though, DiSalvo figures he's still got some work to do when the race rolls around at 3:50 p.m. Thursday.

“We know the Suzukis are fast—they’re real fast through the tri-oval,'' DiSalvo said. "We’ll just have to ride the wheels off these things through the corners and get some good drives.”

Second in qualifying was Emgo Suzuki’s Geoff May with a time of 1:39.712, and third was Yamaha’s Eric Bostrom with a 1:40.063.

“Based on test times from December, we knew that we’d be in the hunt,” May said. “I just got out there by myself, which is where I wanted to be, and tried to put down a fast lap.”

Jaime Hacking, with a 1:40.074, and Damon Buckmaster, with a 1:40.136, rounded out the top five.

Geoff May was able to inch his GSX-R1000 into the 1:39s for second best Superstock qualifying.

Third best time went to E-Boz on the R1.
