Proposal:
Propose that the AMA form a committee to clarify vintage racing for motocross. Suggest that classes be organized into A, B & C as per current guidelines in mx rules chapter 1.
Vintage mx would be any motorcycle that does not have more than 3 1/2 inches of rear travel.
Post Vintage would be bikes that exceed 3 1/2 inches but no more than 9 inches of rear travel.
EVO1 class would be any bike that exceeds 9 inches of rear travel but no disc brakes.
EVO2 classes would be any bike that exceeds 9 inches of rear travel and has a disc brake front and a drum brake in the rear.
EVO3 classes would be any non current two-stroke motocross bike.
Referred to Motocross for Vote.
Reason for Proposal:
The recently run Vintage race at Mid-Ohio had vintage bikes running with bikes that had more travel and better motors. Quite a few riders were confused by the classes. The above would augment age classes. Putting this class structure in the AMA rule book would allow everybody to know what class they would be entering and what type of motorcycle they would be competing against. At the very least, a committee should address this issue and should be composed of riders who enter vintage events.
