2009 AMA Congress Recreational Proposal

Advisory Committee: Recreational Riding Rules and Promotions Committee

Chapter: ALL      Section: ALL      Paragraph:       Page:

Proposal Number: 59

Submitted by: AMA Staff

Congress Decision: Amended

Proposal:

Separate AMA Recreational & Road Riding Rules & Guidelines into individual rulebooks - Road Riding Rules & Guidelines and Recreational Off-Road Riding Rules and Guidelines. This committee requires AMA to form working group to separate road riding and recreational off-road and ATV riding, creating two rulebooks to be approved by separate Road Riding and Recreational Off-Road Riding committees at 2010 AMA Congress. Dual-sport riding and adventure riding will be considered under Recreational Off-Road Riding, as it is mainly off-road with few road segments.  All definitions, rules, and guidelines will be updated to reflect the actual type of riding addressed in the rulebook.

2010

Reason for proposal:

This would ensure enthusiasts of both Road Riding and Recreational Off-Road Riding would be able to gather and discuss rules and promotions in their chosen field of endeavor and simplify the rules-making process. ATV and motorcycles designed mainly for off-road riding share little in common for rules and guidelines with modern on-road motorcycles. Submitted on behalf of M. Byrd.
