Advisory Committee: Recreational Riding Rules and Promotions Committee
Chapter: 4
Section: 7
Paragraph: NEW
Page: 14
Proposal Number: 64
Submitted by: Tom Prendergast
District: 18
Congress Decision: Amended
Proposal:
On the Recreational & Road Riding rulebook, change on Page 14 Letter S. to Road Poker Run and a new letter T. Off-Road Poker Run. Then reletter the remaining sections to fit. T. Off-Road Poker Run 1. At established checkpoints along the course, entrants will draw a playing card or number chip, colored marker, etc. and exchange them for a poker hand or high score/total at the finish. Winners are based on the best five-card poker hand or highest total if numbers are used. Any variation of poker games may be used, but the rules must be announced before the first contestant begins the run. Entrants may not purchase extra cards or extra hands to improve their chances of winning, unless the proceeds go to a charitable recipient. 2. Classes for the poker run can be motorcycle, atv, utv, men women, youth, and/or cc’s. 3. The course should be a minimum of 5 miles in length. The course should be marked with a sufficient number of trail marking so that the riders can find the marked course without getting lost. The method of indicating the route will be explained to the entrants prior to the start of the event. 4. There should be a minimum of one checkpoint per lap. A rider will draw a playing card, marker, etc. each time the rider completes a lap of the course. If the course is longer than 5 miles in length, there can be more than one checkpoint on the marked route. The checkpoint area should be large and flat enough to accommodate 10-15 machines.

Reason for proposal:
What is written in the recreational rulebook does not apply for an Off-Road Poker Run. Also, some clubs still don’t know that they can do an Off-Road Poker Run by recreational rules. I included the group UTV’s, because I was told at last years congress by AMA staff ,that they were not covered by AMA insurance if they were not listed in the rule. I don’t care if they are included/let into the AMA. I just need the wording so that they will be covered by insurance. My club has done 3 Off-Road Pokers since then and had to turn away riders because they were not listed.
